Cataract Surgery: The Day After

If you've been watching this show the last few days, you know that Suzanne Roberts had surgery on camera to correct a cataract in her right eye. In today's episode, she learns whether or not the procedure was success and talks with her surgeon, Dr. Stephen Lichtenstein, about the recovery process.

Suzanne had to wear dark glasses and use some drops, but felt no pain in the post operative period. Like most cataract surgery patients, Suzanne needed to get an exam one day after her procedure. While there, technicians and the doctor examined her eye to make sure the healing process was progressing well, and most importantly to measure her vision to determine the success of the procedure. Suzanne's vision was greatly improved.

Dr. Lichtenstein told her that she would need to come in for a few more regular visits to monitor her eye, and then get regular, yearly eye exams. He said that after this type of surgery, the eye and your vision usually stabilizes at about six weeks. If you wear glasses, you will probably need a new prescription at this point.

Suzanne found that her entire cataract surgery experience was quite simple and pain free. We hope this series gives you the courage to follow her lead.
