Wally Kennedy has been a news anchor with KYW Newsradio since 2006. A familiar name in Philadelphia radio and television, he has covered stories in the area for 25 years.
Prior to joining KYW Newsradio, he spent twenty years as a television talk host with WPVI-TV 6ABC, hosting news-oriented talk programs AM Philadelphia (later AM Live), Inside Story, and Sunday morning talk program, Sunday Live, as well as the entertainment-driven PhillyAfter Midnight, and many special programs.
He has reported from the Vatican, the trial of South Carolina mother accused of drowning her children, and the OJ Simpson murder trial in Los Angeles. With the cooperation of prison authorities, he even volunteered to be jailed for 48 hours to report on what people can expect when convicted of drunk driving.
Kennedy has interviewed a virtual "who's who" of regional politics, including former Philadelphia Mayor John Street, DA Lynne Abraham, and then-councilman (now Mayor) Michael Nutter, as well as Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell numerous times. He was the first to interview Pennsylvania state senator Vincent Fumo about serious published accusations that eventually led to his indictment, and the first to interview then-mayor W. Wilson Goode after the release of the MOVE Commission report on the fire that killed 13 people and destroyed a city block, which was carried by broadcast and print news services across the country.
He has also interviewed numerous celebrities, including Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Lopez, Tom Cruise, and Oprah Winfrey, and Kennedy himself has been interviewed by NBC, ABC and CNN about stories he has covered.
Prior to his television work, Kennedy was a radio talk host at WCAU (now WPHT), the CBS-owned talk station in Philadelphia, and previously, worked at WSB in Atlanta and stations in Flint, Mich. and Evanston, IL. He’s been an adjunct professor of journalism at Temple University since 2004.
Committed to his community, Kennedy has served on the boards of directors for several nonprofit organizations including the American Heart Association and the Lupus Foundation.
A native of Chicago, Kennedy is a graduate of Loyola Academy and Columbia College. He and his wife are the parents of three children, and make their home in Chester County, PA.
